In the early 1920's, Frederick Mathias Alexander, an Australian actor, began to develop a method for changing unconscious movement habits in order to create his own voice therapy.. He used observation and hands-on guidance to inform and guide students into new awareness and new patterns of movement. This evolved into what is now called the Alexander Technique, and is taught both in private sessions and in alexander technique workshops.
The Alexander Technique is now considered a somatic practice, It complements and supports physical therapy, music and voice lessons, dance, and sports training.
Marieke is part of the Poise Project, an application of the Alexander Technique for clients experiencing Parkinson's disease. For more information, visit www.thepoiseproject.org
Marieke specializes in voice therapy for people who have challenges that impact their ability to speak or sing by applying the alexander technique to the coordination of breath and voice.
