The Alexander Technique was developed in the 1920's through 1940's by FM Alexander, and is widely known as a training tool for balance, coordination, proprioception, human ergonomics, and kinesthesia retraining in the performing arts. Today, it is not just for the arts, but for improving any movement activity and reestablishing the coordination between thought and action - the Mind-Body connection.
Marieke Schuurs is a certified Alexander Technique teacher with Alexander Technique International, and a licensed human ergonomics specialist with Andover Educators. She also has a Master of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of California, Irvine. She has been teaching for 25+ years, helping people learn to move more easily, to reduce chronic pain, improve performance, develop their breathing, and strengthen their voice.
Cantare Studio offers individual sessions, group workshops and small group classes in the Alexander Technique and in Voice Performance. Marieke specializes in working with active performers in the performance arts (singers, actors, dancers, etc), but has also worked with public speakers, educators and athletes. The Alexander Technique can be applied to any movement activity to facilitate freedom and ease.
