Marieke is a jazz and classical singer, vocologist, voice trainer, Andover Educator, and Alexander Technique teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Music and her Master of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of California, Irvine, and has been teaching for over 25 years. Her specialty is rehabilitative work with voices, and with musicians.
Marieke has been a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) since 1986, and is currently the Northwest Regional Governor.
She is also a teaching member of Andover Educators, and of Alexander Technique International.
Marieke has performed main stage roles with Eugene Opera and Cascadia Concert Opera, two Pacific Northwest companies, as well as with several professional small ensembles. More recently, she explored jazz, first with an originals group, ElegantM, then as a solo artist. She released Marieke Schuurs & the Eugene Jazz Collective, a collection of jazz/blues standards, in 2018. She will be vocal director for a local production of Little Women, opening March 2020 at the Very Little Theater, in Eugene
